I miss my Sunday morning coffee

“It’s over”, “X just changed Y forever”, “X just killed Y”, “This Changes Everything”
All over twitter, youtube, everything.
The fight for our attention has turned into a scream fest.
You know what I miss? Weekly periodicals with opinion pieces. You know, the ones you would read with your Sunday morning coffee. That time where you could stop, read and reflect. Not be in a constant catch-up game that you can never win. Sure, the editors were the taste-makers, but you could choose whose taste you liked.
Right now it feels like we’re in a lose-lose scenario. Authors need to produce clickbaity slop to game the algorithm, audience needs to trudge through clickbaity slop to get to the actual value. This started before AI, but now AI supercharges slop. There is no taste you can pick, because it’s up to the algorithm to choose and you have no idea how it works.
I feel the answer to this is picking a few people to read/watch/listen to and do that Sunday morning ritual with. Basically, build your own weekly periodical. But to do that, I have to go on a hunt for good material, which I have to do in the land of slop. The risk is that I’ll end up building my own echo chamber - just the curated list of people I like, with no dissenting voices, and I’d be picking with the same taste that needs correcting.
All this to not go insane from the noise. No wonder people dream of living on a farm.
Good luck with that. Did you hear? AI has changed farming forever.
